My Chiropractic Experience:
In the 20 years that I suffered with chronic back pain, I saw many types of doctors that said that they could help me. I visited general practitioners, orthopedists, neurologists, pain management specialists, and acupuncturists - and for several months I even went to an “old school” chiropractor. From time to time, I would also suffer acute problems that would inevitably lead me to a doctor who would write prescriptions for pain and inflammation medications and then send me to weeks of physical rehab. But, my chronic pain never went very far away. In May 2004, I was suffering from such an intense and debilitating pain in my shoulder that I would have gone anywhere and done anything to stop it. A compassionate friend referred me to Brenda Hassebrock because she was “thorough and gentle”, so I called for treatment on an emergency basis. After the first two adjustments, a detailed consultation, and a thorough explanation of the condition of my spine as seen on x-rays, I decided to commit to an extended treatment program. I have never regretted my decision.
My Results as of August 2005:
My belief in good chiropractic care is not the result of an overnight cure. In fact, I was very disappointed at first because it took almost 3 months for all of my shoulder pain to subside and for me to regain full range use of my arm. But, other changes occurred that helped me to focus on my overall health and put the benefits that I was experiencing from my chiropractic treatment into proper perspective.
Years ago, I had fallen while holding a crystal glass, and pieces of the glass cut into my cheek. A trip to the emergency room and 17 stitches fixed the cuts, but a scar remained after it healed. A few weeks after I started my treatments with Dr. Brenda, the scarred area became inflamed – and then a small piece of glass was expelled from my cheek. After 33 years! When I questioned whether or not the experience could be related to chiropractic, friends told me it was a “coincidence”. It was the first “coincidence” of many.
Another “coincidence”? Almost eighteen months before I started chiropractic treatment, I was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst. In January 2004, it was still there. I was told it had to be “watched” and I was sent to a gynecological oncologist. Just prior to my first treatment with Dr. Brenda, I was warned that I would probably need a hysterectomy. Six weeks after my adjustments started, the ovarian cyst completely disappeared – and has never been seen again! Weird, huh? When I asked about the effect of my chiropractic adjustments on the cyst, my medical doctor said it was “the power of positive thinking”.
Regardless of what anyone else may think or say, I am sure that my chiropractic adjustments have generated improvements and have been instrumental in maintaining my overall good health. I haven`t won any beauty contests, lost 3 dress sizes, or gained the energy of Superwoman, - but I am almost 60 years old, I do not need to take any prescription medications and I feel better than I have for many years. Although I still have occasional bouts of lower back pain, they are far less frequent and significantly less severe than before. The chronic pain is gone, and I`m quite sure that my improved health and well-being is not a “coincidence” or “the power of positive thinking”.
I have come to depend upon Dr. Brenda in many ways: the adjustments, her good counsel, her sunny disposition – and even her corny jokes. Based upon my overall experience and long-term results, I look forward to more positive changes and good health in the future, because I have made a commitment to continue getting chiropractic adjustments for the rest of my life.
